The Motswiri camp is a magical verdant paradise nestled on the stunning Selinda Spillway in northern Botswana. The floodplain supports 120,000 acres of flora and fauna and in 2009 the spillway flooded for the first time in 20 years connecting the Okavango Delta to the Kwando Linyanti floodplains. There is an enthralling range of game to feast your eyes on, including giraffe, zebra, tsessebe, lion, leopard, cheetah, the rare roan antelope, sable, wild dog and many bird species. Throughout the year large herds of buffalo and elephant also journey through the area. The camp itself allows you to experience an exquisite affinity to the wildlife without any compromise in comfort; accommodation is comprised of 5 tents, scattered a good distance apart from each other and all equipped with a spacious wooden terrace area and private shower. The communal mess tent is the hub of the small settlement with a dining area enhancing the community feel of the camp, while the luxurious seating area offers unrivaled views of the wildlife that ranges the Motswiri’s 120,00 acres. The camp will become your home for the duration of the your stay in Botswana meaning you can return to the comfort of camp after a day spent exploring.

Steeds to Suit all Shapes and Sizes

The Motswiri camp stables houses 24 horses – ranging from Thoroughbred to Boeperd, Arab and Kalahari crosses something to suit all statures. Pocket sized petites can be accommodated by 14.2 while longer limbed individuals won’t risk their equestrian pedals scraping the floor of the stables’ 16.2 horses. All horses are well schooled and sensible and experienced in the African bush reducing the chances of being unseated at an inconvenient moment. Joking apart, riders will need to be comfortable travelling at all paces and with good base level fitness as you can expect to spend around 6 hours in the saddle a day. Riders can choose between a trail and an English saddle.

Don’t Take Life Lion Down

For those who like to fly by the seat of their pants Aardvark Safaris offer a spectacular array of extra-curricular safari activities. First of all, impromptu games of polo are popular among guests who want to try their hand at swinging a mallet, while there is also an option to sail over some fences for those who are partial to  hedge hopping. While for those beginning their adventure in Botswana, we recommend heading over to neighbouring Zambia to experience the best of the non equestrian thrills and spills Aardvark Safaris have to offer. Zambia is home to the spectacular Victoria Falls which straddles the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. After stoking your adrenaline appetite with fast gallops through wetland, guests can swap their reins for a paddle and experience the thrills of careering down the wild currents of the Victoria Falls.
