Karen Millen SS16: Meet the Muses

KAREN MILLEN’S SS16 COLLECTION IS A CURIOUS SYNTHESIS OF PARISIAN STREET CHIC, BOHEMIAN COOL AND PLAYFUL COLOUR EVOCATIVE OF AN ENGLISH GARDEN. TNG WELCOMES YOU TO MEET MILLEN’S MUSES AND SHOWS YOU HOW TO SASHAY IN STYLE TO THE BEAT OF YOUR OWN DRUM JUST LIKE THE LADIES WHO INSPIRED THE COLLECTION.

Caroline de Maigret

Caroline de Maigret, model and music producer is the quintessential Parisian muse whose sense of style is as natural and nonchalant as her covetable, tousled hair. She is the author of, ‘How to be Parisian, wherever you are: Love, Style and Bad Habits.’ It’s a bible of french secrets, exposing the French ‘arte de vivre,’ to the non-French world. Parisian pearls of wisdom include the musing, ‘Always be fuckable: when standing in line at the bakery on a Sunday morning, buying champagne in the middle of the night, or even picking the kids up from school. You never know.’ She offers similarly interesting advice on cheating, ‘Shake it up and spread the love: cheat on your lover with your boyfriend,‘ and on style, ‘If a Parisian woman could just wear a Burberry trench with nothing underneath, she would be in heaven.’ Indeed Maigret’s influence defines the ‘street-chic’ echelon of the collection. Must have garments that will allow you to evoke a certain Parisian, ‘fuckability’ include the Lace Crepe Dress, Fluid Shirt, Tailored Blazor, Coated Skinny Jeans and Leather Biker Jacket.

Angela Lindvall

Environmentalist and model, Lindvall is the green goddess who breathes a bohemian spirit into Karen Millen’s SS16 collection. Having graced the covers of the world’s most exclusive fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Vogue, Marie Claire and winging her way down the runway as a Victoria Secret Angel from 2002- 2008, she is every ounce the supermodel. Lindvall is a strong advocate of clean eating and resents the climate of consumption connected to the fashion industry. Lindvall resides in Californian in a dream-like hippie enclave in the Topanga woods; her house is an eco-warriors’ paradise decked out with solar panels, a water filtration system, electric car charging station and a yoga retreat where she practices her morning yoga, (you’d be excused for wincing slightly while reading this.) Wince aside – Lindvall represents the quintessential Millen woman; ‘dynamic, peaceful confident and above all, individual.’ Pieces with decidedly Lindvall-esque bohemian inflections include the brown suede biker jacket, silver bangle and suede fringed boots – all pictured below.

Phoebe Collings James

Phoebe Collings James is an Artist, Writer, Model and a DJ, graduating from Goldsmiths in 2009. As an artist, her paintings, performance pieces and sculptures, explore hard hitting topics such as sexuality, violence and desire and have been exhibited globally. She is also a feminist and regularly updates her blog with her musings surrounding feminism. Collings James, although London based is the epitome of the audacious global woman. As a feminist, her thoughts are very much geared towards feminism as a polysemous ideology, dismissing the ‘one size fits all’ way of thinking. Ultimately, Collings James, is a perfect ambassador for Karen Millen SS16; a collection which although British, seeks to ‘speak to women all over the world.’ Pieces evocative of Collings James spirit include the red knee length jumpsuit, patchwork jeans and the beige safari style dress pictured below.
