There is something ethereal about crystal, is it almost hard to believe that something so delicate can be made from such immaculately cut vertexes, and that something so incandescently light catching, can be made from mere glass, however this is the conundrum that Swarovski have created and the legacy they leave on your perception of beauty.

Founded by Daniel Swarovski, the son of a glass-cutter who lived in what is now the Czech republic, Daniel learnt the craft in his father’s small factory, patenting his own electric glass-cutting machine in 1892. Guided by Daniel famous mantra of ‘ to constantly improve what is good’, he founded the Swarovski Company in Wattens, Tyrol, and started his dream towards advancing glass cutting into beauty and fashion as well as Innovating the market through the creation of the sew on crystal studded ribbon, glass reflectors for road visibility, precision optical instruments and a huge range of products.

In 1956 Swarovski and the reputed brand Dior combined to create what was later to be called the ‘aurora borealis’ effect, which creates a shimmering finish to the crystal that enhances the sparkle within each piece, a technique still used today in many designs.

By 1965 Swarovski has become such a name and its design known for such craftsmanship and beauty, they were introduced into chandeliers adorning the great houses of the age, most notably the palace of Versailles and metropolitan opera in New York, for which Swarovski begins the manufacturing of precision cut gemstones, a major modern stable of the brand.
