IT’S OFFICIAL: THE HAT IS BACK AND WE FOR ONE, LOVE IT. SUMMER 2015 IS GOING TO SEE THE RETURN OF THE HAT TO ANY STYLISH GENTLEMAN’S WARDROBE AND WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT HAPPEN AGAIN THIS WINTER. SO WHILST IT’S STILL ONE OF THE HARDEST LOOKS TO PULL OFF, THE HAT GAME IS BACK WITH VENGEANCE AND ITS ‘NO HAT, NO PLAY’ RULE FOR THOSE WHO KNOW AND WILL REMEMBER THAT FEDORA SEASON, IS NEVER.
THE SUMMER HAT
Old mad dogs and English men go out in the noon day sun, so apart from keeping your head free of UV rays, the Panama hat is what you want to be wearing for those sultry Sundays and more formal events this year, from races to regattas, its’ got to be done.
Made from Toquilla straw with the traditional weaving and blocking technique, and originating in Ecuador, the Panama hat, is lightweight and breathable, which makes it perfect for those summer-weight suits and that summer style, we all can’t wait to get back out.
DOWN BRIM PANAMA
AVAILABLE FROM: CHRISTY’S – £95
Producing some of the finest hats in the world since 1773, Christy’s still uses traditional methods for all their designs, exactly the same way they did 200 years ago. With their now unique process and crafting techniques Christy’s is recognised as a dominant force in the industry and is synonymous with fashion and catwalks the world over. Their bespoke service and superior skills allowing it to today become the largest hat company in the world. When it comes to panama hats, quality is as much assured by craftsmanship as the materials, so look no further than Christy’s of London.
THE WINTER HAT
When the weather turns cold, the hat game gets bold. In winter the Gentleman in the know knows he has a range types to choose from, but the rule this season is wide brim, low crown and of course, pure felt. With colour depending on style and outfit, we recommend a brown, blue or grey to ensure wardrobe versatility. Due to its formal appearance Black is out of the question, the winter hat is strictly a daytime accessory and while there is a time and place for black hats, it isn’t this season.
