STYLE ESSENTIAL: THE DRESS SHOE

DRESS SHOES ARE AN ESSENTIAL FOR ANY GENTLEMAN, AND IT NEVER HURTS TO HAVE TOO MANY. THERE’S A SHOE FOR EVERY SITUATION, WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN MORE RELEVANT WITH DRESS SHOES – IT’S A GENTLEMAN’S DUTY TO KNOW WHAT TO WEAR AND THE SATISFACTION THAT’S GOT APPROVAL. INVESTMENT PIECES WILL LAST YOU YEARS AND WILL NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM. THE DRESS SHOE IS A STATEMENT ABOUT YOU AND YOUR STYLE WHEN YOU WANT IT TO THE MOST…BECAUSE IT’S A SAFE BET THAT YOU’LL BE IN EVENING WEAR WHEN YOU HAVE THE BEST NIGHTS OF YOUR LIFE.

THE CLASSIC

CHURCH’S – ALASTAIR
AVAILABLE FROM: CHURCH’S – £325

The Classic patent leather look, the shining leather shoe is a must no matter what your taste in footwear. The clean simplistic cut is the shoe that ever man should be ready to bring out when he gets the invite to that black tie event, so investing some money into a pair is a good idea, however, you can wear these shoes just about anywhere when your out and about on the town, just be careful as patent leather has a habit of scuffing badly and if you actually tear the top coat there’s no going back to that perfect shine the shoes are made for.

THE EVENING BROGUE

JOHN LOBB – HUTTON LEATHER OXFORD
AVAILABLE FROM: HARRODS – £985

Similar to the classic oxford, but made as a dress shoe, these elegant classic cut shoes feature a lighter brogue and usually more slender pointed cut. The main feature that sets these shoes apart from each other in terms of style and quality is the brogues quality and placement, which is key for its separation between a day and evening shoe. A safe and more casual dress shoe well suited to evening business events, while your not going to set the night on fire wearing these, they are however an essential, even if just as a backup.

THE LOAFER

TODS – LEATHER LOAFERS
AVAILABLE FROM: TODS – £310

A more elegant and English look than the classic patent shoes, that nevertheless need a bit of style and flare to pull off. While probably not a good idea to wear to a more traditional event, the tasselled loafer adds just a little something more to your black tie style and lets people know that you’ve got a statement in every look. Formality should be no reason to sacrifice style.

THE SLIPPER

CROCKETT & JONES – THE LION RAMPANT
AVAILABLE FROM: CROCKETT & JONES – £300

A relatively new style to come onto the scene we love the dress slipper as evening wear. These cheeky little fellas are incredibly versatile and can be worn to the pub, club, events and dinners alike. They look great under jeans and suit trousers and allow you a lot of personal freedom in style, getting to choose what emblem adorns the slippers top. However, its very easy to step into garish territory with the emblems, stick to something gold for a more elegant look and for god’s sake stay away from skull and crossed bones as well as brand logos.

THE UNEXPECTED

JEFFERY WEST – THE NOVIKOV
AVAILABLE FROM: JEFFERY WEST – £275

For those gentlemen that count themselves apart from the crowd a twist on the dress shoe can be a great way to set your style apart. These bad boys from Jeffery west are perfect for doing so. Suited and booted with just a touch of brogue for a sharp and elegant look that’s a little bit rock & roll, we love the tall and distinctive look that suits and boots give. A real gentleman can set themselves apart from the crowd in any setting and for a formal event, these shoes will do just that.
